My companion considered razor clams with Basmati pilaf ($21) and broiled halibut with crab risotto and vodka sauce ($26) but his fondness for capers steered him toward hazelnut-crusted mahi-mahi with lemon-caper sauce and potato cake ($22).Įntrées came with soup or salad. Initially, my attention was snagged by seared sea scallops on potato hash studded with sundried tomato, bacon and smoked-tomato glaze ($24) Dungeness crab casserole with pasta, clam-alfredo sauce, sweet red pepper, basil and white cheddar ($24) and Pasta Rave - linguine tossed with clams, crab, shrimp and fin fish with preference on sauce ($20).Įventually I settled on a house specialty: Red Curry BBQ'd Shrimp served on a coconut risotto cake (8 shrimp for $19 or 12 for $22). Not to monkey with success, we split an order as an hors d'oeuvre ($13.50).Īlthough I eyed rockfish/shrimp green curry with steamed "peanut rice" ($13), the "Innovations and Specialties" category drew me in. One of the perks of my restaurant visits is the opportunity to compare crab cakes. Our neighboring table received what resembled jagged pizza but turned out to be "Seahawk bread" - a baguette topped with smoked salmon, cream cheese, havarti, shrimp and onion (full order, $13 half order, $8.50). (I might emphasize the word "spicy" in regard to the bill of fare - more later.) Starters seemed straightforward ($6.50-$14): Oysters, "peel 'n eat" shrimp, calamari and steamed clams with unusual sauces and side dishes - we noticed such things as spicy Haitian pikliz (kind of chile-laden coleslaw), citrus aioli, Saigon sauce and spicy pickled vegetables. Of course they have crab cakes, clam chowder and multiple iterations of fish and other oceanic critters, but I saw a number of preparations listed as "Innovations." For the non-seafood inclined, two versions of top sirloin and a couple of vegetarian options sneaked into the piscatorial bonanza. ![]() The menu promotes tempting twists on the classics. ![]() (Note to self: next time plan a bit farther ahead.) We timed our visit just after the Labor Day weekend - when we called for reservations we could only book at 5:15 or 7:45 p.m. With a drop-dead gorgeous view of crashing surf, Tidal Raves in Depoe Bay certainly has more going for it than simply its reputation as a seafood grill.
